2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 film created by Stanley Kubrick focusing on the future, space travel, aliens and advanced technology. The film has very little dialog with a focus on the music and effects to portray the travel through space on a mission to Jupiter. There is a sense of the world ending and questioning of where humanity will be in 2001. Although this is an old film and we are well past 2001, it still causes the viewers to question if there is life beyond earth and if computers may take over our lives.
Stanley Kubrick could have wanted his viewers to fear for the advancements that are being made within the fields of science and technology. This would make people question their choices and working to not allow their lives to be controlled by others. There is also a large portion of this film that is silent and focused on the effects. During this time, effects were a relatively new art form and the director wanted to highlight the music and effects. Doing so he could also simultaneously cause viewers to question why they are watching a film with so little content and why they paid to watch it.
